SOMETHING DIFFERENT… THE FOCAL SHAPE 65 STUDIO REFERENCE MONITOR REVIEW! In a world brimming with studio reference monitor companies, it can be difficult to separate true innovation from marketing gimmicks without really digging in deep.  Digging deep is what we at  Back Stage Indie Report  wanted to do because the  Shape 65 by Focal  has a plethora of new and different approaches to the audio loud speaker.  It all started when I asked several producers and engineers that I know through Back Stage Indie Report, what studio monitors I should look at for our studios?  Though our 15-year-old Mackie 824’s had served us well, it was time to upgrade to newer technologies.  I was surprised and heartened by how many responses came back with the same brand, “Focal”.  Ok… sooo there was a bit of consensus.  But, was this just the latest hype product?  You know how these things take off with the force of zeitgeist alone. …Fast forwa...

PATHS – DEBUT WITH “NEOPRENE”! Jule Shawe (PATHS) has received much attention from the press and her fans for her debut track, “NEOPRENE”.  Fans in Britain and Ireland have raved about her electronic alternative sound.  Coming from Belfast, she is gaining followers world-wide. Recently showcased on BBC and  The Irish Times .  Jule sultry voice sits nicely into the electronic layers and moving rhythms. 2017 will be an action packed year for PATH with the release of “Right Beside You” and “Last One Standing”.  PATH fans have much to look forward to. “INDIE” – IS IT AN INDUSTRY OR A GENRE? “…Opus Sun is one of the greatest yet unknown Indie bands in the genre!” Opus Sun Before the genre became mainstream (which in itself is paradoxical) indie bands meant that a particular group was signed to a small independent label. Over time, indie music, and thus, the choice indie bands, have come to be a particular sound that moved away from the mainstream and gained a following with new sounds, melodies, and lyrics. Many at the top of indie rock pledge do remain loyal to the labels that took a chance on them when they were up-and-comers and stay on with these independent labels. Most good indie diehards (and fans of the genre) are proud to say that they’ve avoided the mainstream and have maintained their freedom as an indie artist.
