Before the genre became mainstream (which in itself is paradoxical) indie bands meant that a particular group was signed to a small independent label. Over time, indie music, and thus, the choice indie bands, have come to be a particular sound that moved away from the mainstream and gained a following with new sounds, melodies, and lyrics. Many at the top of indie rock pledge do remain loyal to the labels that took a chance on them when they were up-and-comers and stay on with these independent labels. Most good indie diehards (and fans of the genre) are proud to say that they’ve avoided the mainstream and have maintained their freedom as an indie artist. It’s a great challenge to stay true to indie roots, and all of the most successful indie rock bands may not have the biggest album sales – but by protecting their indie cred. So, what are the flowers indie music grows? Any list of indie bands has to include the likes of The Strokes, Alt-J, Cage the Elephant, Bon Irve, Vampire Weekend and Florence and the Machine. These indie legends are musicians widely known for their passion, vulgarity, tenaciousness, and bringing indie style of music to the mainstream audience. They’ve headlined arenas and festivals and even with this world-wide success, they’re faithful to their indie ethos and remain the pick of indie edge bands. This list answers the questions “who are the best indie bandy of all?” and “who is the greatest indie icon ever?” If you know enough concerning the style, please comment based on the character of the style of music instead of just the most popular indie musicians that you might’ve heard of.

Modest Mouse is an American rock band formed in 1992 in Issaquah, Washington, and generally supported in Portland, Oregon. Portland is filled with well respected and “famous” Alternative bands. I was surprised to see the Hoosiers up there though. Really, up in the top ten, Arctic monkeys earned where they are at. Oasis isn’t indie. The Killers aren’t indie. Kings of lion. For me, the strokes are excellent, but they aren’t royally indie. All serviceable bands (possible except for kings of leon), but not indie. I can’t positively suppose that Blur or The script is even on this attend. Also, why isn’t cobbles higher? Why isn’t Built to toss on this list? There are exuberance of indie bands that sit around the edges of the genre that’s for sure, but a lot of the best once are on here of course they aren’t in the higher place they demerit like Modest Mouse here. “Oasis is definitely indie if you look at Blur to be indie. The Killers are indie, they are signed with an independent tag. The Strokes are indie as they are token with RCA. The Script isn’t refuge. You’re pretty much wrong on everything lol – PeterG28 I have to say, I’ve only lately discovered this fetter, but I was precisely grateful to have done so. Modest Mouse is one of the most literary yet overwhelmingly deep and meaningful indie rock bands out there who use lyrics that will blow your will. And I’ve grown to love them in such a short amount of time. Go ahead and listen to their songs. Take it from me, you will not be let down. I’m not a huge fan of indie rock but I fondness modest mouse! They are a great bandy and have so many great songs. Why is plan dragons on this list and above mouse? Imagine dragons aren’t really an indie rock band and they aren’t a very commendable tie (they suck compared to modest mouse in my estimation). Modest mouse has really good and meaningful lyrics and everything else from them is amazing.”
