First Fridays Summer Concert Series
Every summer for the last 15 years, the city of Nashville has been lucky enough to have “Frist Fridays”. This is a weekly, seasonal concert series in the patio of the Frist Center for Visual Arts. It’s a spectacular evening of outstanding music, and if you need a break from the noise you can pop inside the museum and see all the visual art on display, included for free with the price of the concert ticket.

The Tennessee Dirtbags

This past Friday August 25, South Carolina native Nikki Lane and her band “The Tennessee Dirtbags” headlined the event. She’s now local to Nashville and she’s widely known as one of this town’s best country and rock songwriters. Her third album Highway Queen is  a reflective album that goes all the way back to growing up in South Carolina, through the heartbreak of a failed marriage, coming to terms with love not lasting forever, and dealing with a loved one going through a cancer diagnosis. It’s thoughtful songwriting that rocks onstage. The Frist’s lawn was overcrowded with people of all ages dancing and doing cartwheels to the sound of Lane’s music.

Nikki Lane's Day Job

Lane’s day job is as a business owner and fashion entrepreneur. She owns Nashville’s vintage clothing boutique “High Class Hillbilly” with clothing items reflecting her own personal sense of style. Fashion is a huge part of Lane’s onstage performance and persona. You can see her on stage or online wearing over the top fringe jackets, patches from Ft. Lonesome, or rhinestone cowgirl outfits reminiscent of Porter Wagoner. Even her band “The Tennessee Dirtbags” are dressed in head to toe matching denim and cowboy boots. The purposeful nature of her fashion choices makes her concert more of an experience. Between what you’re seeing and what you’re hearing, you feel moved to a different place.
