Fall in Nashville
If you’ve never spent the fall in Nashville, you may not be familiar with the absolute madness that is Americana Music Festival and Conference. For 5 days the city is going to host over 230 live performances at 40 different venues.
The trouble with having that many shows in under a week is that you have to skip some. I’m excited to see household names like the Lumineers, and up and coming stars like Amanda Shires and The Drive By Truckers.  There’s a handy tool in the iPhone app store called “AmericanaFest” that can help you schedule what shows you want to see on what day. I won’t like that I’ve been sort of overwhelmed trying to fit everything I want to see in. But then again, my most memorable experiences from last year were accidentally seeing a band I had never heard of and getting blown away.

Americana Honors and Awards Show
The crown jewel of the long weekend is the Americana Honors and Awards Show on September 13th, hosted by Jim Lauderdale at the Ryman Auditorium. This awards show isn’t like the awards shows you see on TV, it’s much, much cooler. The Honors and Awards have had some historic moments over the years, the biggest claim to fame being Johnny Cash and June Carter’s last live performance together. In a world brimming with studio reference monitor companies, it can be difficult to separate true innovation from marketing gimmicks without really digging in deep.  Digging deep is what we at  Back Stage Indie Report  wanted to do because the  Shape 65 by Focal  has a plethora of new and different approaches to the audio loud speaker.  It all started when I asked several producers and engineers that I know through Back Stage Indie Report, what studio monitors I should look at for our studios?  Though our 15-year-old Mackie 824’s had served us well, it was time to upgrade to newer technologies.  I was surprised and heartened by how many responses came back with the same brand, “Focal”.  Ok… sooo there was a bit of consensus.  But, was this just the latest hype product?  You know how these things take off with the force of zeitgeist alone. …Fast forward 3 months.. .
