Hey! wanna hear something cool?
This past week I was up in DC and I had a change to learn about a band that’s mixing Rock , Punk, and Social commentary. Best of all…. it’s AWESOME! Read-on to hear how defenders answer some of my queries…
So, who are you guys anyway?: We are musicians that have played in bands together touring all of the world. We wanted to start a project totally focused on the music we wanted to make, rather than follow the confines related to writing “radio music”. We have been doing this since 2013. We mix aggressive, punk-infused noise rock with sample-laden political commentary spoken word prose.
What is your story?: Music is our story! We love what we do. We are different. We didn’t try to sound like anyone else but we get some nice comparisons to Fugazi, Rollins Band, Slint and Mewithoutyou. We like those bands so to us – it’s a compliment.
Where are your from?: Baltimore, MD
How has your location influenced your music?: Have you watched the news for the last 2 years when Baltimore is in it…? What do you think this is about?
Who are your heroes?: Chuck D, Henry Rollins, Bob Marley and many others.
What is your favorite piece of gear and why?: Brian’s Reverend Buckshot. It plays and sounds awesome and is his favorite guitar.
What have you been doing the last 6 months?: We are getting ready to record another album in May. We also did this song and video (100% DIY):
What are you going to be working on the next 6 months?: We have a new split coming out this month called “Indecision” with our label mates Red Valley Nursery. It’s consisted of songs about the state of America.

What do you want our readers to know?: We believe in America. We don’t believe everything the media says. You should not either. Look a little deeper and make decisions and opinions on the whole story.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT… THE FOCAL SHAPE 65 STUDIO REFERENCE MONITOR REVIEW! In a world brimming with studio reference monitor companies, it can be difficult to separate true innovation from marketing gimmicks without really digging in deep.  Digging deep is what we at  Back Stage Indie Report  wanted to do because the  Shape 65 by Focal  has a plethora of new and different approaches to the audio loud speaker.  It all started when I asked several producers and engineers that I know through Back Stage Indie Report, what studio monitors I should look at for our studios?  Though our 15-year-old Mackie 824’s had served us well, it was time to upgrade to newer technologies.  I was surprised and heartened by how many responses came back with the same brand, “Focal”.  Ok… sooo there was a bit of consensus.  But, was this just the latest hype product?  You know how these things take off with the force of zeitgeist alone. …Fast forward 3 months.. .
